I am a senior software developer working in the medical industry. I worked for Medical Reporting Systems since February of 2012. In 2019, MRS was purchased by Volpara Health, where I hold the same position. I specialize in writing integrations, and have experience working with TCP/IP, HL-7, and DICOM. I also maintain the legacy CRM software.
I enjoy the outdoors, and love the natural beauty of Washington state. When I cannot be hiking, I enjoy taking long walks. No, really, I once did a 24-hour 74-mile walk through the greater Seattle area. Not only did I used to walk the 8 miles to work daily for fun, but I once also walked the 50 miles home from work when I lived further away. Although my walks tend to be shorter now, I will usually average about 10 miles a day in the winter and closer to 15 miles a day in the summer.
Walking is not the only thing I enjoy, though. I love to travel, be it to new places in Washington, visiting different states, or exploring the world. My desire to travel to new places is reigned in only by the limited cash in my pocketbook. In the US, I’ve been to Oregon, California, Nevada, Kansas, Puerto Rico, and Hawaii. I lived a summer working at a Boy Scout camp in Wisconsin, and another summer living in Boise, Idaho. I have been fortunate enough to have visited Canada, Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Belize, as well as a few Caribbean countries visited on a cruise.
With all of the walking that I do, I would be in pretty good shape if I didn’t enjoy good food so much. Although I am a picky eater–I don’t like most vegetables–I am an adventurous eater. Outside of my love of sampling local cuisine while traveling, I have eaten such things as fried crickets (didn’t care for them) and fried meal worms (I would eat these as a snack). I enjoy eating all nationalities of food, but when I dine out I tend to avoid fast food. I would rather go to a fine-dining establishment once than eat every workday for a month at fast food.
Although I am by no means a professional, I do enjoy acting. I played the reporter in “Singing in the Rain” at the Auburn Dinner Theater, which had daily shows for several weeks. It was a small part but a great experience. I played several different butler roles for the Thornewood Castle mystery dinners. Due to zoning restrictions they are no longer able to do the dinners, but I have a lot of fond memories of those wacky hi-jinks. And speaking of wacky, I have most recently joined the cast in the Langley Murder Mystery–the longest running town-wide mystery weekend in the world (cancelled in 2021 due to Covid). Although I have been several crazy people there, I have only been arrested for murder in front of an auditorium of people once.
Finally, I am a gamer. I primarily enjoy first-person open-world games like Skyrim and Witcher 3. However, I have recently been drawn in by Subnautica, an underwater horror-survival game. I’ve played city and park builders, some side-scrollers, and the occasional VR game. I find escaping this world into another is a good way to unwind and de-stress.
